Many people consider volunteer work but never do it because they think they will need special skills or training. If you volunteer to work for PSS, we will assist you in whatever way we can to make your experience a happy, rewarding and educational one!

We've tried to answer some of the more common questions you may have below.

I've never volunteered before. Does it matter?


... No It Doesn't.


Some people have, and others haven't. If you haven't volunteered before, please won't worry, everyone has to start somewhere!


Do I need any skills or qualifications


... In most cases, No!


Most volunteer roles don't require special skills or qualifications and you will be given any training you need free of charge!


Will there be any training available?


... Yes!


PSS has its own Training Department, with a wide range of short courses, which will be available to you free of charge. There is also a certificate issued for every course you attend!


Will I get expenses?


... Yes!


Reasonable expenses that arise from volunteering, such as travel, are reimbursed!


Is there a minimum amount of time I need to commit to?


... No!


The amount of time is different for each role, and also depends on how much time you are able to give!


I work full-time, can I still volunteer?


... Yes!


There are some roles that will fit in with your full-time employment!


What will I gain from volunteering?


... Lots of Things!


You may be looking for a change of career or you could be at the start of your working life - either way it's an excellent way of gaining experience in a particular field and it always looks good on your CV. You'll be helping people, making friends and having fun too!
