We need volunteers now for…

Dementia Befriending

The aim of the Dementia Befriending Scheme is to provide support and friendship to people with dementia and their carers.

PSS - Volunteering Information

The scheme helps combat the effects of isolation and loneliness among people with memory problems and/or dementia diagnosis, as well as their family members who have taken on the role of a carer. The befriending scheme does not replace health and care services at home, such as cleaning, personal care, meal preparation etc but it does provide companionship and conversation, and can also involve stimulating activities and reminiscence work.

Through regular visits, volunteers will help people with dementia:

  • Participate in their community
  • Use local services and facilities
  • Create new social links
  • Develop wider social networks
  • Meet people with similar needs who can support each other
  • Participate in social activities
  • Engage in stimulating reminiscence activities
